Worthing’s newest bakery business has scooped a top award in the bread version of the Oscars – just 9 months after firing up the ovens.

Gluten free bakery, Sussex Bread Company, rose to the occasion to triumph at the recent Tiptree World Bread Awards 2014 with a batch of awards, including Gold in the Gluten Free category, at the awards ceremony, held in London. A further four Silver and Bronze awards were also handed out for its loaves, including a Silver in the Speciality Bread category for the Firle Focaccia.

Ed Synnott, co-founder and head of the bakery’s product development, said: “Baking for others has been a long-held dream, partly driven by the lack of good gluten-free products in the market, and partly by a desire to get back to my roots – getting back to bread.”
